FedEx is Going Electric

Technology, in so many ways, has improved the quality of life. One of those aspects that technology has helped so far is in goods delivery.  FedEx is a fleet delivery that has embraced what technology has to offer. Over a decade ago, FedEx began its investments in electric vehicles. Their goal is for future pick-up and delivery vehicles to be diesel-free, fast delivery, and low maintenance. The vision is that by 2040, FedEx electric vehicle fleets will have taken over the business.

That vision is becoming a reality; FedEx is going all-electric. This Pickup and delivery company has signed a contract with Bright Drop XOS EV to get 120 of its battery-electric trucks dispatched at FedEx’s facility in Inglewood, California. Already, 5 of Bright Drop’s EV trucks have been safely delivered to FedEx’s facility earlier in 2021. In addition, several other fleet companies have signed contracts with FedEx to equip them with the electric fleets they would need in the nearest future.

FedEx’s dedication to ensuring an all-electric zero-emission fleet delivery has inspired them to adopt the goal for 100 percent electric vehicle fleet deliveries by 2024. Although one can’t ignore the fact that the price of an electric vehicle is entirely on the high side compared to a mechanized one, the cost of maintenance of an electric car is lesser than the “normal” vehicle. To have a comprehensive understanding of FedEx’s visions for improved pickup and delivery, here are some electric vehicle models owned by companies FedEx has been in dealerships with!

BrightDrop EV600

This General Motors new and improved company is the first Vehicle-making company in dealership with FedEx. Earlier in 2021, BrightDrop delivered 5 of its EV600 large sizes to trucks to FedEx’s facility in California. In 2022, over a hundred electric vehicle fleets from Brightdrop would be delivered to FedEx.

  • Vehicle weight less than 10,000 pounds.
  • More than 600 cubic feet of cargo space for packages.
  • Sleek looking

Connected BrightDrop Epaulette

What about electric vehicles that are capable of handling rigid, flat, and wooden pallets? Well, the makers of Brightdrop Ev600 have also invented the BrightDrop Epaulettes. These Epallets would efficiently carry pallets to their destinations. Also, it would be done in “bulk” and faster.

Electric Cargo Bicycles

Who says electric vehicles are the only electric fleets FedEx has in mind. Bicycles are known to be more flexible, in some cases, faster, and also occupy less space. Electric Cargo bicycles are also part of FedEx’s agenda for the future. They could be beneficial for Zero_emission cities.  In addition, they make less noise, and their services can hardly be compromised because they can deliver right on time. FedEx has begun making them a permanent service vehicle in some cities like that of London.

What are their features?

  • Can travel up to 30mph
  • Consume less space, hence reduction in traffic congestion.
  • Can go 93-mile range when fully charged

Roxo™, the FedEx SameDay Bot®

It doesn’t always have to be a vehicle fleet or even a bicycle. What if it is a robot with small five-tire wheels?

FedEx has incorporated into its agenda the use of bots to deliver goods. These bots could be used to deliver short-distance, last-minute goods. In addition, these electric bots would be used to make smaller and more personal deliveries within cities. They are cost-effective, do not add to traffic congestion since they are made to function on roadsides, and take goods right to customers’ doorsteps.

What are the features?

  • Zero_emmision
  • Can carry up to 100 pounds of goods.
